If that’s you, pull up a chair. This is exactly why BEYOND Design was born.

A quick, honest moment

I’ll go first. I’m Nelett. I live in Namibia—a small-but-mighty corner of southern Africa—and for a long time I believed my voice had to sound a certain way to “count.” I’m Afrikaans. I have an accent. Talking out loud felt scary.

But the truth kept nudging: our story as creatives isn’t only found in the work we deliver. It’s in the real life that wraps around it—the messy middle, the tiny wins, the late-night doubts. And keeping that story quiet helps no one.

So I pressed record.

What this podcast really is

BEYOND Design is a raw, workshop-style podcast for women in design. Think voice notes to a friend—unfiltered, useful, a little cheeky, and always real.

Yes, design matters. But here’s my belief: being a graphic designer is only 20% design.
The rest is people, pricing, feedback, confidence, boundaries, energy, family, faith, focus—life. And that 80%? That’s where your power sits.

Namibia to the world (and why your GPS is a superpower)

I’ve worked with international brands, fashion designers, and purpose-driven founders from my desk in Windhoek. Not because I chased a postcode, but because I learnt this: your GPS doesn’t limit your creativity—it expands it. Your location gives you a lens. Your pace, your landscape, your story—these shape your taste, your instincts, your eye.

The industry doesn’t need more copies of the same city voice. It needs yours.
Your distance can be your clarity. Your context can be your strategy. Your GPS is your strength.

The heart, the butterflies… and the point

Do I still get butterflies before I press publish? 100%. But butterflies are just energy saying, “This matters.”

The point isn’t to impress. The point is to serve—to make the creative path feel lighter and more doable. I call it Design Your Life: not a grand rebrand of your existence, just small, steady moves that add up.

Because freelancing isn’t difficult the way we’ve been told. It’s simply small things, done right, consistently.
