Mindful Self-Employment: How to Stay Focused and Productive

October 10, 2022

More and more people are exploring working for themselves, whether from home or in separate office spaces. With this newfound freedom comes a great deal of responsibility that cannot be ignored. In this article, we’ll explore some key considerations to remember when working for yourself.

Firstly, it is crucial to stay motivated and on task. When you don’t have a boss to hold you accountable or deadlines to push you along, it’s easy to fall into the trap of procrastination or to become sidetracked by distractions. It’s up to you to stay focused and manage your time effectively to meet your goals. With a clear schedule, deadlines, and goals in place, staying motivated and on track is much easier.

Secondly, working for yourself means taking care of all the administrative tasks that come with running a business. This includes everything from bookkeeping and taxes to marketing and customer service. It may be worth investing in some training or outsourcing some of these tasks to stay on top of things. By doing so, you can ensure that all aspects of your business are running smoothly and focus on the areas where you excel, like designing 😎.

Thirdly, working for yourself can be isolating, especially working from home. It’s essential to stay connected with others in your industry or community to avoid feeling disconnected and burnt out. Joining industry groups, attending networking events, and collaborating with other professionals are all effective ways to stay connected and engaged with your field.

Finally, it’s important to remember that working for yourself is a career choice with challenges and responsibilities. However, it can be an enriching and fulfilling path with the right mindset and approach. By staying motivated, taking care of administrative tasks (the Graphic Designers’ Playbook is an excellent tool for this), staying connected with others, and balancing work and life, you can create a career that works for you.

Whether you choose to work from home or not, working for yourself is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. By being proactive and organised, you can overcome the challenges and enjoy the rewards of this unique and life-giving career path.
