Running a design business can feel like a mess, even when you look like you have it together.

And the scary part is… it’s usually not the design work that’s the problem.

It’s everything around it.

The admin.

The feedback chasing.

The “where did I save that file?” panic.

The invoices you should’ve sent yesterday.

Trying to run your life and your business at the same time.

If you’ve ever sat at your desk feeling overwhelmed before you even start working, this episode (and these notes) are for you.

Why I Can Talk About This (The 20% About Me)

I didn’t create the Playbook Desk because I’m naturally organised or love systems.

I created it because my business was all over the place.

For years I worked from:

  • Word documents
  • Excel sheets
  • PDFs
  • Notes on my phone
  • WhatsApp screenshots
  • Random folders I promised myself I’d clean up “later”

In 2024, I launched the first version of the Desk.

It looked good.

It functioned.

People bought it.

But inside my own workday… it still didn’t feel right.

It didn’t match the real way I worked.

It didn’t support the human side of freelancing.

It didn’t hold the mental load creatives carry.

So I went back and rebuilt it for a full year — using my messy, honest, everyday workflow.

That’s why I can talk about this.

Because I didn’t design it from theory.

I designed it from lived experience.

The Real Issue (The 80% You Came For)

Most creatives don’t need another planner or productivity hack.

They need structure — clear, simple structure that doesn’t add pressure or feel too “corporate.”

We need a system that holds:

  • your work
  • your clients
  • your money
  • your timelines
  • your planning
  • your ideas
  • and your real life

… all in one place.

Because let’s be honest:

You can’t run a business from 14 different apps and your own memory.

It’s too much.

It becomes overwhelming.

It drains your creativity.

The Designers’ Playbook Desk solves that by giving everything a home.

A normal, human, easy-to-use home.

Here’s what’s inside (click on each to see more detail):

1. Your Week at a Glance

So you know what’s happening and when.

No panic.

No guessing.

2. Your Projects in One Place

With timelines, notes, tasks, feedback — everything clear.

3. Your Clients Organised Properly

A welcome page, a hub, the brief, feedback, next steps, files — all in one place.

4. Your Money

Quotes, invoices, payments — finally simple.

5. Your Personal Side

Reflections, planning, brain dumps, space to breathe.

Because you’re not a machine.

This system doesn’t boss you around.

It supports you.

It keeps things clear.

It reduces the mental load.

And it helps you work with more confidence and less overwhelm.

A Small Thought to Leave You With

If your business feels stressful or scattered, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.

It simply means you need better support.

We don’t become better creatives by pushing harder.

We become better by designing systems that give us space to think clearly and work calmly.

That’s what the Playbook Desk is for.

And remember:

You are allowed to design a business that works for you — not the other way around.

HELLO, I'M NELETT

 — a designer, just like you.
Design life is a wild ride. Briefs, deadlines, feedback… and then real life on top of it. School runs. Family. Food. Faith. Feelings. All of it.

But we’re not only designers. We’re whole humans.
So this is a cosy corner for the work and the life behind it — the stuff that actually keeps you going. And if you’ve forgotten it lately: you’re powerful. Not perfect. Not always energised. Just powerful in the real way.
